Lichtenstein was a key figure in the Pop Art movement and along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and James Rosenquist he became known for his precise compositions that often documented what they parodied in a tongue in cheek manner. Influenced by popular advertising and comic
book style, his art is considered ‘disruptive’ by some.

The artwork used in this collection, by kind permission of Tate and the Lichtenstein Estate, is WHAAM! (1963) and is probably one of his best known works, currently displayed at Tate Modern, London.
