The 1952 Tour de France was the first year that the combativity award was introduced – money was awarded to the most aggressive rider in each stage. It was so popular that the super-combativity award was introduced the following year for the most aggressive rider over the whole tour – the prize money was a whopping 100,000 francs.
The 1952 Tour de France was massively dominated by Fausto Coppi. By the end he had a lead of over half an hour! A gap which has never been bettered. Whilst everyone loved Coppi, his dominance was a problem for the organisers, so much so that they had to up the prize money for 2nd place to make it more interesting for everyone else.
This was also the first year that they introduced mountain finishes such as Alpe d’Huez. Of course… Coppi won all those stages.
If you’re into the Tour de France or just cycling in general then this beautiful white tee is a great addition to your collection – printed on our super soft 100% ringspun cotton. See below for specs…
Unlike most t-shirts in the cycling industry, we manufacture ours from scratch. This means you are not getting another off-the-peg continental t-shirt with a screen print applied, but you are getting something created and tailored for your body.
We use pure ringspun cotton. It isn’t the cheapest to manufacture with, but the fit and feel is sublime and it washes really well without shrinking like crazy. Our women’s tees have a lower neckline and thinner hem on the neck.
