World Bicycle Relief’s Pedal To Empower 2020
World Bicycle Relief’s annual signature ride this year was more important than ever before. With Covid-19 restrictions making it hard for physical events to happen, charities and the people they support across the world have suffered the effects. This year the signature event was held virtually with the theme being ‘Pedal To Empower’ – empowering women and girls to break down barriers with bikes.
About the Event
Last month (October), 787 riders, 119 teams from 31 different countries from around the world came together and raised a whopping $294,442 for the campaign. An amazing achievement, well done! The event consisted of completing fun cycling challenges via the virtual adventure kit and Empower app – raising money along the way. Not sure about you but I saw a lot of motivation and encouragement on social media between all of the riders and from people not participating. It was really moving to see everyone in unity, bringing each other closer (metaphorically) during these weird old times. This resonated well with World Bicycle Relief and with what they wanted to achieve and it has been a successful fundraising event for them.
