Yep, there comes a time in every man’s life when he needs to make room for another project in the shed. For me, that moment is today.
I’m selling my utterly beautiful custom steel Donhou. If you don’t know Tom Donhou then go check him out. I met him in 2011, he was a brand new UK framebuilder and I was looking for something special. I saw one other bike that he made and knew he was the chap to make my bike.
Back then he wasn’t remotely famous so he set to work straight away. These days you need to wait a year or so before he can begin crafting your bike! You can buy “off the peg” Donhou’s but the frame & fork alone will cost you north of £2250… and rightly so. This man has serious raw talent and an eye for detail like I’ve never seen before in my life.
Anyway, he built my bike up, I adorned it with some spectacular components such as the very Limted Edition SRAM yellow groupset (it’s SRAM Red but in Tour winning yellow to commemorate the first time they won the TdF in 2009), 3T carbon finishing kit and an all carbon 3T fork. Once built I was ready to collect it.. but Tom wanted to take it to his first ever Bespoked Bristol, so I happily agreed. He took it, and some others and he won best in show – an outstanding achievement for his first ever show.
This is frame number 11 so it’s pretty damn rare and potentially will grow in value over time. Regardless of that it rides like a dream – the steel is compliant but surprisingly lightweight… in fact the whole bike weighs just under 8kg, largely thanks to the SRAM groupset. The 3T carbon fork, bars and seatpost absorb any excess road buzz and this bike becomes a super fast road muncher.
